Sorry to say that I cannot get this in time for our final class, but I'm really impressed with the ease of creating the book and hope it turns out half as good as it looks online. Enjoy the preview!

Artist Statement Draft
So many of us spend the majority of our lives behind walls and separated from the natural world. Whenever I get the chance to step outside, my wonder and amazement at nature is manifested in the photographs I create. It is almost as if I can make up for the lost time by getting as close as possible using my camera. Whether it is the form or color of growing things that I capture, these photographs are an expression of my interaction with the natural world around me.

Assignment 4 - Beyond the Print
Us Apple device enthusiasts appreciate the difficulty in dealing with Flash enabled web sites. In thinking about this assignment, it occurred to me that old technology actually would allow these users the ability to view similar galleries. My thought around it is really to display the photos in some grouping as they might appear on a gallery wall. Matted and framed for display, but also allowing a closer look at the detail in the image. I therefore created an old mapped image in HTML and linked it to the other photograph files. Most of the Flash vs Apple issues will be resolved in the move to HTML 5, but until then the older technologies can be leveraged.

Tilt Shift Time Lapse
I mentioned this very cool video showing tilt shift and time lapse photos. Not sure if it was done in Photoshop or in camera. Also not sure what the song is all about either. Ivette asked me to post it here.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Assignment #2
This first image is made up of 4 separate photos. The background is a lava flow in Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii. I used a Gaussian Blur to simulate depth of field. The figure was made from 3 photos and layered together before being placed over the background.
This is the simplest of the 3 which includes 2 photographs.
This final image is made up of four photographs that I staged while using my wireless remote and a 2-second delayed shot.

Digital Portfolio Part 1 (5 photographs)
My digital portfolio will be a study of macro photography with an emphasis on flowers, plants and trees and depth of field. To this end, I will go to Pittsburgh’s Phipps Conservatory, the Cleveland Botanical Garden as well as several hiking tours around the Pittsburgh area as the weather improves and green things start growing again. My intention is to use my Canon 50D with the EF100mm f/2.8 Macro lens and available light with an added reflector as necessary.
A sparkling orchid looks like someone sprinkled glitter on the tepals (the outer petals). |
The colors and lines on this leaf really drew my eye. |
The light through the bonsai's leaves and branches plays across its roots. |
The spotlight behind this leaf really accentuates the color and lines. |
The light and color on the petal of this orchid was amazing. |
